Carlsbad History

During the 1880’s, John Frazier, a sailor by trade dug a well in this area and started offering his water to travelers at the whistle stop and train station that became to be known as Frazier’s Station. The water was tested and with the discovery that the water had some of the same chemical components of world famous spas, was named Carlsbad after the famous Spa in Karlsbad in Bohemian.

Shortly after the find, the Carlsbad Land and Mineral Water Company was formed. The company was a joint effort of Henry Nelson, DD Wadsworth, Samuel Church Smith, and Gerhard Schutte. From this time until today, Carlsbad has been a sought after area to call home for businesses, families, and farmers that still dot the country side today growing olives, avocadoes, and citrus fruits.
